Brookes Brothers

Bio

One of the most respected production partnerships in Drum and Bass, the Brookes Brothers have become a formidable force across the bass music scene. Known for their unique, soul and disco infused beats, the Brookes Brothers are one of the genres most accomplished production teams. Hailing from London, U.K., brothers Dan and Phil Brookes set about producing their first tracks together after their love of raving and dance music in general piqued their interest in music production. With demos recorded, the duo sent a few tracks to the AIM address of drum'n'bass label Breakbeat Kaos -- owned by Adam F and Fresh -- and after receiving a good reception for the tracks, the duo ended up signing their first release, Someone, to Viper Recordings. With good connections built with Fresh, the brothers quickly signed material to Breakbeat Kaos and in 2006 released the 12" Hard Knocks on the label. Splitting their output between the two labels the duo went on to release a slew of 12"s and in 2008, the single Tear You Down helped push the duo's name to a wider audience. The duo scaled to new heights with the seminal hit 'Tear You Down' in 2008. A blend of soulful vocals and funk infused bass, 'Tear You Down' spent 2 weeks atop the UK dance chart as well as 15 weeks in the top 20. Catching the attention of Sara Cox, who made it BBC Radio 1's "Record Of the Week", 'Tear You Down' underlined the duo's place in the upper echelons of DnB. Continuing with their own brand of anthemic and soulful drum'n'bass, the brothers set about work on their debut album. The duo released their much anticipated self-titled LP in 2011, which showcased their unique, accomplished production style. Featuring classics such as the ethereal 'Last Night', dancefloor hit 'Beautiful' (featuring Robert Owens on vocals), as well as 'Paperchase' (a collaboration with Danny Byrd). The album also saw the act dabble in Dubstep, with the reggae tinged 'In Your Eyes' becoming the Brothers second track to be playlisted on Radio 1. With support from major radio DJs including Pete Tong and Zane Lowe, the album helped find the duo an ever-expanding audience. Continuing their relationship with Viper and Breakbeat Kaos, the brothers continued to release 12" singles in between their ever-increasing DJ sets which also included a residency at London's Fabric night club. Now fresh from the BBC Radio 1 playlisted hit ‘Loveline’ released to wide acclaim on Breakbeat Kaos in late 2012, the legendary production team has signed exclusively to the label they started out with, Viper Recordings. The duo had started to record their sophomore album, which was slated for release in 2014. With the track ‘Carry Me On’ (featuring Chrom3 on vocals) selected as “Hottest Record In The World” by Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1, and exciting collaborations in the works, including ‘Get On It’ with Danny Byrd from his forthcoming album ‘Golden Ticket’, the most exciting chapter so far for the Brookes Brothers is about to emerge.
